If there has been one positive to come from the coronavirus crisis, it is the way that the nation has unified in its support of the NHS.
The frontline workers have been duly praised as heroes, but there are also thousands of people behind the scenes who are working hard every day to keep our hospitals running.
Undoubtedly deserving of our praise, the catering team at Furness General Hospital have certainly stepped up to the plate. Catering manager Tracy Litt says: “As well as providing a consistent service for our inpatients and staff here at the hospital, the team has increased the number of ‘meals on wheels’ being distributed in the local community.
“Since the pandemic has started we now deliver to even more areas and to local GP surgeries where the local community needs us more than ever.”
Although the catering team are rarely seen by the patients at the hospital, Tracy knows that the work they are doing is very much appreciated. She says: “I am absolutely delighted that the catering team here at Furness General Hospital has been recognised in this way and during a time when everyone is working so hard to provide the best possible service more than ever for our patients, staff and our local community.
“Over the past two months I could not have been prouder of all of the team who have gone above and beyond on a daily basis and pulled together to make sure our service is maintained so everyone receives the vital support they need.”
